EMILE BLUTEAU
(1931 - )

Emile Bluteau Emile Bluteau was born in the Eastern Townships of Quebec in 1931. Emile started carving in the late 70s. He would spend his winters making his carvings and in early June take them off to the Lachute Flea Market. He also bought and sold antiques and had a large collection of old Quebec calendars.

Emile considered himself the maker of 'assemblies'. He preferred to use found wood, plastic, metal and string in his creations. He used painted bottle caps for hats and he often used old thumb tacks for the eyes of his animals. Adrien Levasseur described Emile Bluteau's work perfectly by stating "the naivety as well as the great simplicity in the execution make his works endearing and encourage you to want to buy them all." His work is playful and it often leaves you with a smile on your face.
