Jay Adams was born in East Orange, New Jersey. Jay was a naturalist and he enjoyed fishing. He lived in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina for seven years before returning to Maine. Jay worked as a chef at country inns in New Jersey, Bangor, Bar Harbour and Ellsworth Maine.
Jay Adams was a self-taught artist, carving waterfowl and painting humorous depictions of Maine life set down in a detailed, naive style that was charmingly unique. He always signed his works "Jay .." and the two dots are Bigfoot's eyes and found in every painting.
Jay Adams works were sold and displayed at the Southwest Harbor Gallery, Firehouse Gallery in Damariscotta, and Little White Church Gallery in Phillips.
